The Power's Eddie Marsan reveals inspiration for Roxy and Bernie's relationship
The series, which is based off of Naomi Alderman's novel of the same name, follows what happens after teenage girls all over the world develop the ability to electrocute people at will. Marsan plays Bernie – a violent London based crime boss with a daughter, Roxy ., Marsan has revealed the advice Alderman gave him when playing the character.
"I worked extensively with her on creating the character," the actor said. "When I was working on Bernie, she gave me a life history of Bernie."The actor also revealed the historical figures which inspired the relationship, adding:"She gave me a great tip that the relationship between Roxy and Bernie was inspired by the relationship between Henry the Eighth and Queen Elizabeth the First, which I always thought was a brilliant point of reference.
"I think Roxy is kind of one of these characters where she thrives in the kind of chaos and anarchy and that kind of follows her wherever she goes," she said."She's really headstrong, and she does questionable things, but you do root for her," Zmitrowicz continued.Alongside Marsan and Zmitrowicz, the series also stars Toni Collette, John Leguizamo and Auli’i Cravalho.
