The Porsche 911 hybrid is finally happening.
"Our aim is to offer in each of our segments—the two-door sports cars, the four-door [sedans] and the SUVs—a combustion engine version, a hybrid version and a fully electric version," Blume said."Coming back to the two-door sports cars, we will add a very sporty hybridization to the 911, so then we will have the offer of combustion engines and hybrid in the 911 and we already announced we will come with a fully electric 718.
Blume didn't provide a specific date for the launch of a 911 hybrid, though he did restate Porsche's goal of achieving 80 percent electrified sales by 2030 and added that the 911"will be the model which we will drive as long as we can with a combustion engine.
A new 911 chassis would likely offer Porsche an easier opportunity to package the requisite batteries for a hybrid model, whereas with the 992, there's not a lot of extra space, even if there's a bit of room for a motor in the transmission. Porsche may have, but don't expect it would stick batteries up there for sake of a hybrid model. Still, a hybrid 992 is a real possibility. Porsche was seen testing such a car at the Nürburgring a few months ago.
