Summary Netflix has released a trailer for The Piano Lesson, an intense new film produced by Denzel Washington about the history of a family living through the Great Depression. Based on the 1987 play by August Wilson, the writer of Fences, the movie adaptation marks the feature directorial debut of Denzel's son Malcolm Washington, who wrote the screenplay alongside Virgil Williams .
The trailer teases the Charles family's lives during the 1930s, with their home piano being a central part of their family history. The intense preview also hints at how long the piano has been part of their lives, dating back generations to when their ancestors were enslaved. It ends by revealing the film will be in select theaters in November, followed by a Netflix release on November 22.
Denzel Washington's movie career has seen his involvement in plenty of different films ranging across a variety of genres. The Piano Lesson, however, is a special moment for him, as his producer credit means collaborating with both of his sons to tell a story about generational trauma.
