The goal of this scam is to get the victim to move money into an "alias" account, where the scammer can steal it. This scam can include emails, texts, phone calls, and even letters sent via the U.S. Postal Service, according to Treasurer Garrity.According to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center, 19,000 complaints related to tech support scams were submitted between January and June 2023, which included $542 million in estimated victim losses..
