When the sport first announced the new regulations coming into 2021 , the goals were simple: the new cars should promote closer racing, decrease the performance deficits between teams, and allow smaller teams to make up ground to the frontrunners. Many wondered if this strategic regulation call would work because F1 is known for not allowing any of this. Yet, Ross Brawn, an important figure in F1 for the last three decades and now occupying the position of the sport's managing director, and his team set about the new technical regulations. Though their methods and reasoning were questioned at times, teams and drivers still believed and trusted what was presented on paper.
