In the 1950s and ‘60s, the city evicted the mostly Black and Latino working-class residents of Section 14 and destroyed their homes. Now, survivors and their descendants seek reparations.

The consultant will also be providing “additional historical research that may be necessary to develop a complete understanding of what occurred before, during and after the displacement took place,” Palm Springs spokesperson Amy Blaisdell said in an email.“abatement” in Section 14,...
