The One Piece remake studio president, George Wada, has expressed his commitment to making the first season of the anime as fulfilling as possible for the audience. Although he doesn't outright confirm more episodes ahead, his response suggests that season 2 is in the pipeline and will likely be revealed in greater detail closer to the release of season 1 in February 2027.
The One Piece franchise is in an incredible position right now as a multimedia juggernaut firing on all cylinders. Its original manga is pushing 30 years of serialization, with its original Toei Animation adaptation not far off.
It's sparked multiple spin-offs, most notably the recent launch of One Piece: Heroines, and even a live-action adaptation on Netflix that defied the odds with its fidelity to the source material while still being broadly accepted by fans and critics alike. But perhaps the most enigmatic announcement was that of its WIT Studio remake, The One Piece, announced at Jump Festa 2024.
The One Piece, for the longest time, barely released much more than a glimpse beyond its initial December 2023 showing. Beyond some small production stills, behind-the-scenes footage, and other teasers rehashing those elements, The One Piece anime did little to inspire confidence. The closest thing it got to a shout at Anime Expo 2025 was in WIT Studio's president, George Wada, answering a fan question with the cryptic next year, we'll see you.
A year has since passed, and finally, substantial glimpses followed, with a genuine trailer and, during Anime Expo 2026, ScreenRant was able to discuss the anime's future and prospects for more seasons via an interview with Wada. The One Piece Remake Studio President Teases Season 2 When it comes to anime, Japanese production officials are notoriously careful with their words, and it's hard not to see why: interviews can be spread far and wide, and can color fans' expectations going forward.
With how long it took for The One Piece to confirm its East Blue Saga adaptation, running seven double-length episodes on average with an approximate 300 minute collective runtime, it's surprising now that Wada was now more able to comment on the anime's schedule and future. Asked about how WIT Studio was looking ahead for the future with such a massive adaptation, Wada doesn't outright confirm more episodes ahead, but his response hardly leaves room for doubt.
First of all, we are so honored to be working on this project. Of course, everybody knows that the original manga is just massive. So we'd really like to work on this and make it really great. Our goal right now at the moment is to create season one as fulfilling as possible for the audience.
So we are currently completely focused on the first season of the series. We just have to make sure that it sets sail right, and then we can all enjoy it together with the fans from all over the world. So we really want to enjoy this with the current existing fans from all over the world, as well as the new ones.
-George Wada Naturally, Wada's response is not so much a traditional confirmation of season 2 for The One Piece, but the acknowledgment on a studio level that this is indeed the first season rather than outright referring to it as a limited project. With its adaptation of the first 50 chapters confirmed by Tudum not even accounting for 1/20th of the entire One Piece story at this point, WIT Studio faces a similarly long road ahead as the live-action series, especially since Mayumi Tanaka remains locked in as the voice of Monkey D. Luffy.
Setting aside the upsetting implications of having Tanaka continue working in the role for both this and the Toei Animation original, and her advanced age a lasting concern among fans, it also generally implies untold years ahead for such an undertaking overall. Future Seasons Of The One Piece Will Only Grow More Ambitious Given season 1 of The One Piece is set to conclude as Luffy meets Sanji at the floating restaurant Baratie, the true most spectacular moments of the first 100 chapters, namely the climactic fight with Arlong, won't happen until presumably season 2.
With so much screentime being dedicated to these 50 chapters once again, it'll be interesting to see future arcs rendered with similar polish as what's already been shown in the first major teaser trailer. Wada's comments, understandably, convey a commitment to nailing the first season above all else.
It's certainly a stock response from a high-ranking anime executive, but it ideally means season 2 is in the pipeline and will likely be revealed in greater detail closer to The One Piece season 1's release in February 2027
