We take a look at how the silver salmon run at Anchorage's Ship Creek finished up.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Anchorage’s popular silver salmon sport fishery at Ship Creek didn’t happen this year after a poor return of coho caused the fishery to be cancelled.
According to hatchery data, in September, the numbers were still low, so hatchery staff went into the creek and physically removed the remaining salmon.When they finish spawning the fish - which includes removing the eggs from the females and the milt from the males - the fertilized eggs will be raised in the hatchery until they reach the size needed for each specific fishery.
