New images from Robert Eggers' TheNorthman reveal an up-close look at Willem Dafoe's jester character.
A new batch of images from The Northman reveal the first look at Willem Dafoe's character, Heimir the Fool. The veteran character actor is coming off yet another banner year in his fantastic career. Most notably, Dafoe reprised his role as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home, 15 years after he last played the villain in Sam Raimi's beloved Spider-Man trilogy.
Dafoe's first project of 2022 will be The Northman, a historical epic written and directed by Robert Eggers. After making his first two feature films, The Witch and The Lighthouse, with the indie studio A24, Eggers has now moved on to Focus Features for The Northman. The film centers on Alexander Skarsgård as Amleth, a Viking warrior prince from Scandinavian legend who served as the inspiration for Shakespeare's Hamlet.
This look at Dafoe's next role comes as he is still fresh off a pair of menacing performances in both Nightmare Alley and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Though his The Northman character doesn't appear to be a villain per se, it will surely be an entertaining performance considering Dafoe's penchant for playing eccentric characters.
With two films under his belt, Eggers has been assembling a talented troupe of actors he prefers working with, and Dafoe is clearly a part of that group given his past performance in The Lighthouse. Following her breakout role in The Witch, Taylor-Joy has also re-teamed with Eggers . With so much going for its talented cast, The Northman should make a decent splash at the box office for an arthouse film when it debuts on April 22.
