Young, a native San Diegan and former San Diego City Councilmember, was recently appointed interim CEO of San Diego Workforce Partnership
The first time Tony Young went for a job at San Diego Workforce Partnership, he got trapped in a bathroom stall before the interview. It’s a job-seeker’s worst nightmare. But now, after more than two decades, he looks back on it differently., recently related that story of how he didn’t get the job to the staff of the Workforce Partnership. For him, it shows a full circle moment at an organization he’s been fascinated by for years.
Young, a native San Diegan, boasts a career that spans politics and nonprofit leadership over 20 years in the region. However, his first job around the age of 14 was as a paperboy delivering morning copies of the San Diego Union newspaper on his bike.to work with San Diego Workforce Partnership, which had a different name at the time.
Later in his career, Young was as an educator for the Diego Unified School District and also a president of the San Diego City Council. He was a council member for eight years. He’s also been a board member for San Diego Workforce Partnership, San Diego Association of Governments , Metropolitan Transit System and San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
Now at the helm of San Diego Workforce Partnership, Young said he is focused on listening and connecting with community stakeholders.
