launched at the top of this year, taking their podcast — that touched on everything from Toni Morrison's legacy to the history of “Knuck If You Buck” — from a 40-minute audio show to 8 minutes on-camera. Through every iteration of the show, their mantra remains the same: Black people are not a monolith.
“Black culture is so layered, varied and multifaceted that being able to actually see that just takes the show to a whole other plane,” Brittany says about the show that runs four days a week and covers Black experiences in this country. “I loved working on ‘The Nod’ podcast, and it was such a joy to be able to tell Black stories in a medium that hasn't always featured Black people.
For Brittany particularly, joining a legacy of Black talk show hosts, particularly women, like Oprah Winfrey to Jemele Hill, who shape and shift culture forward is a milestone. “I feel like I'm really following in the footsteps of so many other women who do incredible work. I feel really lucky to be a Black woman who's talking about Black culture on television, or some form of it, four days a week. I think that to me actually does feel like a really big deal,” Brittany notes.
It’s a moment that she doesn’t take lightly, particularly at a time in media and culture where the Black experience is front and center, and not always for positive reasons. In the past few months, the show has covered
