Currently, the UK’s National Health Service is facing a significant workforce challenge. We simply don’t have enough staff, and we need to find ways to deliver health care more efficiently. To achieve that, digital transformation is crucial.

We need to digitally transform these processes with technologies like robotic process automation and automatic data-capture tools. For instance, the Royal Free Hospital in London began using robotic process automation to process job applications and transfer medical notes from one database to another, saving the HR and clinical teams thousands of hours of staff time.

Goldman Sachs is a great example of how a company navigated a digital transformation. It now describes itself as a technology company, which is phenomenal for a 154-year-old investment bank. In 2015, the company set up a brand-new consumer business, and it needed the technology to drive it. The CTO, who was leading the strategy, didn’t ask what shiny new tools were needed. Instead he asked what kind of culture they wanted to create.
