Test your vocabulary and puzzle-solving skills with 'Strands,' a new daily word search game from The New York Times. This unique puzzle challenges players to find words with a common theme and uncover a special 'spangram' linking opposite sides of the board. Will you be able to master this daily brain teaser?

The New York Times has launched a new puzzle game called Strands , a twist on the classic word search . This beta game, which may become a permanent fixture if enough players engage daily, presents a six-by-eight grid of letters. The objective is to identify a group of words that share a common theme, guided by a clue provided. When a theme word is discovered, it remains highlighted in blue.

Players must also locate a special word known as a 'spangram,' which connects two opposite sides of the board and reveals the unifying concept linking all the theme words. While theme words are not proper nouns, the spangram can be. It appears in yellow when found. The New York Times describes the themes as diverse, encompassing fill-in-the-blank phrases, steps in a process, categorized items, synonyms, or homophones. Like Wordle, Strands will feature varying difficulty levels, with occasional curveballs thrown in to challenge players. The game encourages a sense of community and connection through open and thoughtful conversations. The New York Times emphasizes the importance of fostering a safe space for readers to share their perspectives and engage in meaningful exchanges. The platform also sets guidelines to ensure a respectful and secure environment, prohibiting insults, profanity, obscene or inflammatory language, and threats. Continuous attempts to repost previously moderated comments and actions that compromise site security are also strictly discouraged
