The NYBG celebrates its Roberto Burle Marx show with a Jungle Garden party.
, a new exhibition dedicated to the work of Brazilian landscape architectA celebrity in Brazil, Burle Marx was a modernist icon who drastically transformed the urban landscapes of, and São Paulo—even the unfamiliar would recognize his Copacabana Beach promenade. The exhibition at the New York Botanical Garden is the first temporary installation on the conservatory’s lawn and the garden’s largest show to date.
For the show, which was three years in the making, the New York Botanical Garden partnered with landscape architect Raymond Jungles on the endeavor. Jungles, who was mentored by Burle Marx, explained to, “Burle Marx took a traditional use of materials and revolutionized it to a whole other level. My favorite works of his are the large public projects in huge plazas and gardens, where people mingle from all socioeconomic backgrounds. His projects could bring different people together.
