Friedman was recently appointed to lead NCT, where she replaces Katz, the Theatre’s long-time driving force, who is retiring after 11 years in the role

The performing arts is a precious national resource that can help to develop a nation’s future leaders. It supports education and enhances the soft skills that underpin success in numerous industries. It needs to be supported as a core part of nation-building – not just a nice-to-have.

"Great leaders work well with others, they’re kind, and they accept people who are different to them. Theatre teaches all of this." "At NCT, children work to strengthen their artistic voices in ways that enrich their daily lives," says Friedman. "There is so much history here in these walls," she says."You can feel the love that these strong women have put into the space."

“The outdoor theatre was a genius plan by Moira,” says Friedman of the innovation by her predecessor, when Covid-19 regulations put the brakes on indoor performances. “Besides performing written works, and school setworks like our current production of The Tempest, theatre can also address social issues like climate change; it can make historical events real for audiences; it can even help to teach science,” says Friedman. “We support education in so many important ways.”
