The Universal Monsters are back in comics in full force, thanks to Skybound Entertainment, and the publisher’s next entry takes readers back to ancient Egypt with The Mummy. The latest in a line that has included new Dracula, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and Frankenstein miniseries, Skybound’s latest monster title focuses on Prince Imhotep, taking a look at the famous story from an entirely new perspective.
Played by Zita Johann in The Mummy, Grosvenor was a British/Egyptian woman who found herself embroiled in a centuries-old love story, as the revived Prince Imhotep became convinced she was the reincarnation of his lost love, Anck-es-en-Amon. The decision to retell the story from her perspective is an exciting one, making this perhaps the most anticipated Skybound Universal Monsters reboot yet.
Author/artist Faith Erin Hicks looks to be an excellent choice for Skybound’s Mummy comic, which will hopefully continue the publisher's trend of taking unexpectedly satisfying new approaches to classic material
