Lee Cronin, the writer and director of Blumhouse's The Mummy remake, has a truly bizarre connection to Star Trek: The Original Series. Cronin is an Irish filmmaker who directed the supernatural horror flicks The Hole in the Ground and Evil Dead Rise before finding worldwide success with Lee Cronin's The Mummy.
Starring Jack Reynor and Natalie Grace, who plays the titular monster, Lee Cronin's The Mummy tells the tale of an American family whose eldest daughter, Katie, is abducted in Egypt. Years later, Katie is found but has been transformed into a supernatural creature who terrorizes her family. Lee Cronin's The Mummy proved to be a horror hit, grossing over $80 million worldwide from a $22 million budget.
Lee Cronin spoke to Johan Albrechtsen of Moovy TV about The Mummy, and Albrechtsen pointed out the truly bizarre connection Cronin has with Star Trek: Gene L. Coon, writer and producer of Star Trek: The Original Series, wrote episodes under the pseudonym"Lee Cronin," including the infamous episode"Spock's Brain.
" Watch Moovy TV's clip below: Director Lee Cronin is aware of the"Lee Cronin" with Star Trek ties who preceded him, and the filmmaker agrees that it's a strange coincidence. Gene L. Coon wrote Star Trek: The Original Series season 3 episodes with his"Lee Cronin" pseudonym because he was under contract to MGM at the time.
As"Lee Cronin," Gene L. Coon wrote the classic Star Trek: The Original Series episodes,"Spectre of the Gun,""Wink of an Eye," and"Let That Be Your Last Battlefield," as well as the infamous"Spock's Brain.
" Although"Spock's Brain" is generally considered the worst episode of the original Star Trek, it's certainly memorable, as are the other stories that"Lee Cronin" penned. Gene L. Coon is perhaps the most important contributor who shaped Star Trek, besides creator Gene Roddenberry himself. Coon is credited with creating pivotal Star Trek concepts and characters, including the United Federation of Planets, Starfleet, the Prime Directive, the Klingons, and Khan Noonien Singh .
Lee Cronin was born in 1982 in Dublin, Ireland, 13 years after Gene L. Coon wrote his Star Trek: The Original Series episodes as"Lee Cronin.
" Many original Star Trek episodes lean towards horror as well as science fiction, which further ties The Mummy director Lee Cronin to Gene L. Coon's pseudonym.
Given the success of Lee Cronin's The Mummy, perhaps Paramount Skydance will invite the Irish filmmaker to direct a new Star Trek movie. 299 9.0/10 8/10 Star Trek: The Original Series 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-PG Drama Action Adventure Sci-Fi Release Date 1966 - 1969-00-00 Network NBC Showrunner Gene Roddenberry Directors Marc Daniels, Joseph Pevney, Ralph Senensky, Vincent McEveety, Herb Wallerstein, Jud Taylor, Marvin J.
