NFL free agency, where the dollars fly and buyer's remorse is all too frequent, begins Wednesday. As we wait for this year's big deals, here's a look back at notable signings the Texans made in free agency during their 20 years.
The biggest free-agent bust in team history. Osweiler helped the Broncos stay afloat during their 2015 Super Bowl season before Peyton Manning reclaimed his starting job before the playoffs. The Texans, desperate to upgrade after the Brian Hoyer playoff nightmare, stepped up with a monster deal.
Although the Texans again won the AFC South, Osweiler was underwhelming and was benched in Week 15 for the similarly lackluster Tom Savage. After the latter got hurt, Osweiler regained his starting job and won a playoff game against the Raiders but went down in a hail of interceptions in the divisional round at New England. The Texans cut their losses in the offseason, trading Osweiler to Cleveland with a second-round pick as a sweetener in a salary dump.
