You've might've passed KFC's secret ingredient a million times in the grocery store:
to its very bones. Kentucky Fried Chicken's legendary formula of "11 secret herbs and spices" was reportedly revealed to the world by a nephew of the Colonel himself, Joe Ledington of Corbin, Kentucky. Tucked away in a family album was a handwritten list of "11 Spices — Mix With 2 Cups White Fl."
Once the Tribune went public with the list, the KFC PR department went into overdrive, issuing denials and affirming that the secret formula remained, well, secret. After all, the entire foundation of the fried-chicken empire rests on the unique chicken-enhancing properties of the Colonel's hard-won blend of seasonings. In old-school KFC commercials, thearen't shocking—there aren't any esoteric chile peppers or controversial contraband herbs. But one spicestand out.
