When you’ve got Apple money and Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon on your call sheet, apparently nothing is off the table. Even a trip to space
has well and truly cemented its place among them. The opening episode of the new season centres on sending Jennifer Aniston’s character, news anchor Alex Levy, into space. Yes, space.
It opens with an obituary package for Alex, attempting and failing to dupe us into thinking the series had killed her off. It’s a decent attempt at a joke, having the camera zoom out to Alex appraising her own on-air dedication as too short, but one that couldn’t possibly land .Anyway, she’s off into space with tech billionaire Paul Marks , who is preparing to buy theIt’s all very far-fetched. But when you’ve got Apple money andon your call sheet, nothing is out of the question.
Astoundingly, that isn’t even the main story of season three. In the second episode streaming today , UBA is hacked by mysterious cyber terrorists and every employee’s personal data – including an intimate video Bradley , now evening news presenter, sent to her lover and colleague Laura – is about to be leaked. Is it the Russians? Maybe!desperately wants to be relevant. That’s why we have suffered through Covid storylines and why the first season was based on the #MeToo movement.
hasn’t jumped the shark; it never got in the water to begin with. Instead, we should treat it just as we treat those rubbish, addictive shows I listed earlier: with a sigh, an eyeroll and a misplaced but undying dedication to watching every single episode.
