Season 3 begins streaming on September 13.

Summary Though Mitch Kessler's ghost lingers in the hallowed halls of UBA, The Morning Show has long outgrown its original premise by season 3. The Apple TV+ show is back without Steve Carrell, and its leading ladies are thriving more than ever, with Alex Levy closer than ever to wielding real influence at the network and Bradley Jackson finally on the evening news.

There's just one problem: UBA is a sinking ship, and all its employees are in danger of going down with it. That's how Jon Hamm steps into the picture, playing tech billionaire Paul Marks and ready to offer UBA a lifeline. But while Cory Ellison is ready to jump into bed despite his partner being untested, it's Alex that Paul has his eye on. Meanwhile, Bradley and Laura Peterson continue to dance around each other, and The Morning Show introduces a new co-anchor in Chris Hunter .Screen Rant spoke to executive producer Lauren Neustadter about the evolution of both characters and headlines in The Morning Show season 3, the process of casting Jon Hamm for what is sure to be an unforgettable role, and her years of collaboration with Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine productions. Note: This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and the show covered here would not exist without the labor of the writers and actors in both unions. Lauren Neustadter Talks The Morning Show Season 3 Screen Rant: This season covers everything from January 6th to Roe v. Wade. What goes into deciding which stories will appear in the season and how they're going to mesh with our characters’ stories? Lauren Neustadter: Well, all credit goes to Charlotte Stoudt and our amazing writers’ room this season. Charlotte came in with such a clear take on this season, and it really felt like we had watched them grow and evolve in such incredible ways in seasons 1 and 2. She really came to us and said, “I think this is a moment in time where everyone in the world is grappling with the truth.” And what is true? Is the truth for you the same for me? And the answer obviously is no. So, we explore that through the lens of each of these characters that these audiences have come to know and love and care so much about. And then who else can we throw into the mix? Jon Hamm, Tig Notaro, and Nicole Beharie help us expand the world and the story that we're telling and really continue to do the thing that I think people know and love about The Morning Show, which is reflect the world that we're living in and the issues that we're dealing with. But we do it through a really dramatic and exciting filter [that we] really just enjoy, and make it all delicious, which I think Charlotte in the writer's room really did. We're very excited about this season. Speaking of delicious, when you hear that Jon Hamm is a space-obsessed tech billionaire, you're like, “This man is evil.” But he is so great at making you like him and making you want Alex and Paul Marks to get together. What is that balance like? And did Jon Ham say, “I want to be in here,” or were you like, “I need Jon Hamm to play this part?” Lauren Neustadter: I think that there were many, many people in the cast and the producer group who really thought that Jon Hamm was the most formidable, the most magnificent, the most interesting – and we really wanted him to be a part of the world of the show. I think that, certainly, we were coming to him and saying, “Would you like to join us?” And it was so exciting that he did want to join us. I think Paul Marks is a character who really is utterly original; who is not exactly as he seems, who always keeps people guessing and pushes them to their limits in really interesting and exciting and unexpected ways. I think if we've got a delicious soup on The Morning Show, he's an incredibly exciting ingredient. Also, Nicole Beharie is a delight as Chris. And through her story of inequity in the company, we get to really explore these different lines between race, class, and gender that we do every season – but it almost feels more explicit this season. Lauren Neustadter: She’s great. I think that we were trying to reflect the world around us and the world that we were living in the storytelling. There is one scene – without giving spoilers – where she and Holland Taylor really go head-to-head in a way that I think is extraordinary. Those two actresses are such powerhouses, and I think it's a scene that you would not see in any other show, and it's going to make you really step away and think and feel. I think that's what we always hope to make our audiences do: think and feel and engage in conversation about the episodes that they've seen. That's the goal; that's the dream. Lauren Neustadter: I mean, she's the best work wife in the world. She's such an incredible partner; she's such a great friend. She's such an amazing collaborator, and she's really just an inspiration. I mean, talk about a woman who can do it all. I just think it's the greatest privilege of my life that I get to work with her, and I feel so proud of what we've been able to accomplish together. I think Hello Sunshine was such a big dream of hers, and I felt very privileged that she invited me along for the ride. We're so proud of everything that our team has accomplished, and we're very excited about all that's yet to come. About The Morning Show Season 3 “The Morning Show” explores the cutthroat world of morning news and the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning. In season 3, the future of the network is thrown into question and loyalties are pushed to the brink when a tech titan takes an interest in UBA.
