Unlike many players who find themselves in financial turmoil after retiring, Tshabalala has managed to maintain financial stability. His secret? Starting to plan for life after football as soon as he turned professional.Tshabalala’s financial discipline began long before he joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2007. While playing for Free State Stars and earning a modest salary, he developed the habit of saving and investing.
“I got my fingers burnt. I managed to recover. So, it’s best to start early, make your mistakes, learn from them, recover, pay your school fees,” Tshabalala said. By the time he arrived at Chiefs, he already had multiple streams of income, which only grew as his brand expanded.Tshabalala’s investment strategy was simple yet effective. He told himself that the money he earned from appearances, endorsements, and national team bonuses was not for him to use, but to invest.
