paid homage to her late mother, Marian Robinson, at the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on Tuesday night, donning a mid-calf skirt with a vintage photograph printed over top.
The image showed Robinson gazing at the camera, dressed in circular statement earrings and a bandana print blouse buttoned to the top. Her hair was styled in a curly pixie cut, just barely touching her forehead.pencil skirt, securing the fold with a skinny black belt. On her feet, she opted for a pair of chocolateOn the runway, the tan skirt was also offered in a dark heather gray hue, styled with the same brown sweater, as well as a long-sleeved turtleneck. Faded portraits were a recurring motif in the collection, plastered across several garments, including draped balloon sleeve dresses. These faces were captured by photographer Paul Kooiker, borrowed from his show at the Acne gallery space in Palais-Royal.
Creative director Jonny Johansson also took an equestrian approach, drawing inspiration from his favorite show, “The Crown,” to design riding suits, box-pleated skirts and silk scarves, imbued with the house’s idiosyncratic angst.
“I really want to be safe and secure, and make something modern of things that are heritage for us,” Johansson told WWD at the time. The former first lady has regularly showed an appreciation for high-fashion artistry, donning a myriad of pieces by household names Naeem Khan, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung and Balenciaga, as well as emerging designers such as Cuban American artist Isabel Toledo, which she frequently wore during her years in The White House.
