One of Mantis' weirdest Marvel Comics storylines could be set up during the third and final adventure for the MCU's current Guardians of the Galaxy.
After Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Marvel Studios could explore one of Mantis' weirdest storylines from Marvel Comics. The current roster of the Guardians of the Galaxy will be changing significantly after the MCU's Phase 5, as director James Gunn is parting ways with Marvel Studios, and it's expected that multiple characters will meet their ends during the upcoming film.
Though Mantis is eventually freed from Kang's clutches, she fully embraces her identity as the Celestial Madonna, goes on to mate with a Cotati in the Swordsman's reanimated body, and gives birth to Sequoia, the Celestial Messiah. The Celestial Madonna Saga is an incredibly complex and impactful storyline in Marvel Comics that brings Mantis into focus and gives her an important role in future storylines.
Introducing the idea of the Celestial Madonna storyline in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will create the opportunity for Mantis to have a much more substantial storyline in the MCU. This would also give Klementieff a chance to really explore the character, rather than simply being played for comic relief as she has been regularly in previous MCU projects.
Moon Knight & Loki Could Have Already Teased The Celestial Madonna While Kang the Conqueror is the primary antagonist for the Celestial Madonna storyline in Marvel Comics, the event also features other variants of the supervillain, two of which have already been teased in the MCU. In the comics, Rama-Tut, the Ancient Egyptian Pharoah variant of Kang, awakes from suspended animation in the 20th Century and joins the fight against his warrior variant as he is tired of conquest.
