Mercedes refreshed the Maybach S-Class with MB.OS, generative AI, illuminated trim, and absurd luxury touches

Maybach updates S-Class with more tech, lighting, and customization. AI-driven MB.OS, floating wheel stars, and glowing trim push excess further. Champagne flutes, comfort doors, and a fridge underline Maybach luxury.

Maybach just took everything that made the new Mercedes S-Class and dialed it up even higher. From the exterior, the changes might not be immediately obvious, but the details are truly over the top. This ultra-luxury sedan gets more technology, more personalization, and plenty of ways to differentiate it from its humble S-Class sibling. More: New S-Class Uses 50,000 LEDs To Light Nearly Six Football Fields Ahead Maybach calls this the most extensive update for the model ever. Outside, the changes lean heavily into visual drama rather than redesign. The grille is larger, the lighting signatures are more elaborate, and buyers can now spec illuminated badges, illuminated grille surrounds, and even a glowing hood ornament in some markets. The headlights and taillights also incorporate Maybach-specific three-pointed star detailing. In case that wasn't enough, Maybach now offers forged wheels with a floating Mercedes star in the center cap. No matter how fast the wheel is moving, the star stays pointing up. Of all the logos that do not need this treatment, this would be it. Despite that, here we are. Speaking of wheels, some finishes can also be ordered in mirror-like chrome, in case the restraint had already packed up and left. Cabin Tech And Lounge Experience Inside, the goal is to make the Maybach feel less like a car and more like a private lounge. The Superscreen setup now runs Maybach-specific graphics, new wood trims, and ambient lighting themes have been added, and there’s even a leather-free interior option using textile and synthetic materials for buyers who want a different take on luxury. AI, supported by the latest MB.OS is a big feature in this car as well. The vehicle can accept natural speech input to leverage tools from Microsoft, Google, and other cloud services. The AI can suggest destinations based on habits, respond differently based on context, and even adjust climate control automatically based on behavior or voice tone. In many ways, this is a supercomputer that also happens to be a car. More: Audi’s Coming For Maybach With New Q9 Horch The system also expands media functionality, offering a wider range of entertainment options through the updated interface. Of course, the real Maybach experience still lives in the rear seat. Automatic comfort doors can open and close at the touch of a button, executive rear seats recline like first-class airline chairs, and the center console can hold silver-plated champagne flutes next to a refrigerated compartment. It really is somewhat like a living room on wheels. Rear seating is strictly configured for two passengers, enabling a fixed center console that also integrates wireless charging, touchscreen remotes, and extra storage. Maybach borrows the active suspension from the new S-Class. Rather than just adapting to what it's just experienced, it reads the road ahead. In fact, it can remember where potholes and broken pavement are so that it can adjust before hitting them in the future. The powertrains deserve special mention as well. Electrified Engines And V12 Power Maybach offers new electrified six- and eight-cylinder engines along with an optional V12 power in some markets. Mercedes' new flat-plane-crank V8 in the Maybach S 580 now makes 530 horsepower and that's not including the additional 23 horsepower available from the electric assist. The V12 produces 603 hp and gets a unique grille badge, helping the near 2.5-tonne limo reach 62 mph in a claimed four seconds flat. Buyers less concerned with outright power can opt for the six-cylinder, Mercedes’ M256-Evo, offered in some markets as a PHEV. It pairs a 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged petrol engine producing 443 hp and 413 lb-ft with a 161 hp electric motor delivering 354 lb-ft , supported by a 21.96kWh battery. In this configuration, the Maybach can travel more than 60 miles on electric power alone. Put on top of all that, nearly endless MANUFAKTUR customization options round out the package. Truly, the latest Maybach S-Class is the greatest of them all.
