There’s no such thing as “I can’t do maths, Miss,” or “It’s too difficult, Miss”. In Antonette Jordaan’s classroom, there’s a permanent ban on those phrases. “ ‘Difficult’ is a swear word in my class,” she says. “If you believe something is difficult, you’ll want to stop trying. But if something is a challenge, you’ll give it a go.”
