Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani are a dream team. Too bad they’re saddled with this confused sequel
It’s no secret these days that Marvel is having something of a crisis behind the scenes, completely revamping their approach to continuity-critical storytelling in their television efforts and scrambling to draw audiences back into theaters in a rudderless post-Endgame world.
Iman Vellani continues to be a charisma supernova as Kamala fangirls her way through her inaugural mission with her biggest idol, but there’s also plenty of space for her to discover how heroism isn’t all just looking cool and saving the day. Even Nick Fury gets some fun moments in a B-plot that finds him hanging out with Kamala’s family and everyone’s favorite cat-alien/flerken, Goose. It’s with these flickers of character that The Marvels remembers how to have fun.
