General David Berger, the 38th commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, officially stepped down from his post on Monday after serving in that role since being appointed by President Donald Trump in 2019. He is set to be replaced by General Eric Smith, who has worked alongside him as assistant commandant for the Marine Corps.
