For 15 years, Annabelle Tometich hid behind the byline ' Jean Le Boeuf ' as the News-Press' resident restaurant critic . Now she's stepping into the light with a new memoir titled ' The Mango Tree .'' The Mango Tree ' takes a closer look into a story that made Southwest Florida headlines back in 2015. 'My mom used her BB gun to shoot at a man who she claimed was taking mangoes from her yard in Fort Myers ,' Tometich said.
Tometich began writing her book after being furloughed during the COVID-19 pandemic. 'I joke — but it’s half not a joke — but it was a complete midlife crisis,' Tometich said. Tometich described writing her first book as 'uncomfortable' in the departure from her French pseudonym. 'I think it was a very convenient hiding place if you’re someone who doesn’t quite know who she is and hasn’t figured that out yet,' Tometich said.
