PLUS: Bringing American football to women in Manchester
Hello, It’s a dark day for Greater Manchester’s NHS, as it has been announced it will be plunged into a form of ‘special measures’ over an over £180m black hole of debt.
In a staff briefing seen by the M.E.N, the situation was described as ‘the most complex set of challenges that the health and care system in GM has ever faced’. Late last year, NHS Greater Manchester’s debt spiralled by more than £800,000 a day in just four months, ending at the £180m deficit figure. But why are we in so much debt?
“Lots of leaders within NHS GM will be keen that their financial performance doesn't end up affecting patients - but realistically, with this level of scrutiny and the need to bring down overspending so drastically, decisions could be forced over what services are absolutely essential, and what could be lost because they're just unaffordable in the current financial turmoil,” she continued.
It’s also great for families, as parents editor Emma Gill discovered, with an exercise trail for kids to have a go on the beams and climbing equipment. The park is also home to a station for the East Lancashire Railway, where you can hop on or off, or just stand there to watch the steam train. The restaurant space has been used solely for hotel guests and events since the previous Stock Market Grill restaurant closed just four months after it opened in July 2023.Suspects named in Rochdale child exploitation probe Six suspects have been named and charged in connection with an investigation into child exploitation in Rochdale.
