Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Magicians' "The Strangled Heart" was the eighth episode of the Syfy fantasy series' first season, and while it set up intrigue for what would come next, it was also an intense episode in its own right.
The Magicians season 1 primarily focuses on Quentin Coldwater and his journey, as he discovers that the magical world of Fillory that he used to read about as a kid is in fact real, and so must take an entrance exam to attend Brakebills University which he passes. From there, Quentin becomes acquainted with the rest of the students at Brakebills, and together they are faced with a series of dark conflicts that will not only put their lives at stake but may also psychologically scar them as well.
Quentin and Alice burn the doll so that the vines can transfer to it, which would act as a surrogate body, but nothing happens. Eventually, Quentin and Alice realize that the reason why the doll worked for Jane is that it was her most prized possession, and so they need to burn Penny's most prized possession to heal him. They discover that it is a candy wrapper that Kady gave him.
Mike Gets Possessed By The Beast Mike and Eliot are asleep in their New York apartment when suddenly a fly lands on Mike, which then leads to his eyes glowing. He walks out of bed and finds a rabbit outside his apartment. He picks it up, rips the head off, and pulls a Virgo Blade from inside. Mike then returns to Brakebills University, and it's here where he stabs Penny. Mike is thrown into an underground cell in which he is bound and unable to use magic.
Eventually, Mike is able to escape from his cell and attempts to kill Dean Fogg , but Eliot saves him just in time and kills Mike. Afterward, it is revealed that Mike was possessed by a powerful magician known as the Beast . After this revelation, Dean Fogg tells Quentin that no one is safe and that the Beast will be coming after everyone in The Magicians.
