The new trailer for the live-action The Little Mermaid is promising and exciting, but it still has not fixed one of the biggest remake problems.
While Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid remake trailer has many elements to be excited about, it still shows signs of a problem plaguing many movies and shows. Especially when adapting such a hallmark animated classic, Disney will have to be very careful in making sure every detail counts and that the film is both true to the original and a good movie in its own right without feeling like it only depends on nostalgia for the original to be successful.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The new trailer seems to be following much of the same story as the original animated film, with The Little Mermaid's live-action story following Ariel as she wants to learn more about the above world but is forbidden to do so by her father, leading to the young mermaid taking drastic measures. The trailer also depicts the pivotal shipwreck in which Ariel saves Prince Eric and her deal with the sea-witch Ursula to give her legs.
The Little Mermaid Remake Will Struggle To Beat The Animated Version These color grading issues are critical given the comparison audiences will draw between the visual clarity of the animated version of The Little Mermaid and the live-action one. Few, if any, Disney remakes have surpassed their original iteration, and it’s doubtful that the new adaptation will be able to beat what has become a true classic in Disney’s canon of movies.
The Little Mermaid Live-Action Remake Is Still Exciting However, even with the potential issues the new trailer for The Little Mermaid presents, this does not mean that audiences do not have a reason to be excited. The colorful undersea shots show that the production knows how to craft bright, engaging scenes even in a challenging environment like under the sea. Halle Bailey’s casting shines in the trailer as she hits both the wonderment and determination that helps define Ariel as a character.
