Chris Pratt's Brooklyn accent in The Super Mario Bros Movie invited backlash, but a Legend of Zelda movie would have an even bigger voice problem.
The Super Mario Bros Movie faced backlash for Chris Pratt's Mario voice, and the possible The Legend of Zelda film could face a similar problem—just the opposite. Illumination's film based on the classic Mario games has been an overall success and has opened the door for other Nintendo games to get their chance at an animated movie. However, as these games and their characters have been around for decades, there are inevitable problems that come with adapting them to a new format.
The Backlash To Chris Pratt In Super Mario Bros. Movie Explained The plumber-turned-hero of the Super Mario Bros games is easily recognized by his Italian accent and popular catchphrases like "Let's-a-go!" and "It's-a-me, Mario!" However, there was little of this in the Super Mario Bros Movie since actor Chris Pratt gave the character a Brooklyn accent instead.
The Legend Of Zelda Just Giving Link A Voice At All Could Be Controversial While Mario is known in the Super Mario video games for his Italian accent, The Legend of Zelda's hero is known never to talk at all. Link yells, grunts, and gasps from game to game but has no actual dialogue.
