This letter calls out the LDS Church for its silence on the ongoing violence in Palestine and urges them to take a stand against the genocide.
As of August 27, over 150,000 Palestinians have been injured and 61,158 have been killed as a direct result of Israel i actions. Following the violence that began on October 7, 2023, the LDS Church released a statement expressing devastation over the loss of life and calling for peace. This initial statement was well-received, as it avoided taking sides but emphasized the gospel of peace.
However, nearly two years have passed since this initial statement, and the LDS Church has remained silent on the ongoing violence. There has been no condemnation of the atrocities committed against Palestinians, nor any specific mention of Palestine in their ongoing donations to Middle East relief funds. This silence is deeply troubling. The genocide happening in Palestine is not a secret; it is being broadcast to the world through social media, news outlets, and articles. Ten years from now, the LDS Church does not want to be remembered as one of the Christian churches that failed to speak out against this injustice. The Prophet Joseph Smith, known for his unwavering commitment to truth, even at the cost of his own life, would urge us to take a stand against oppression. We, as a church, must follow his example and call out the violence perpetrated by Israel and condemned by the international community. We must urge our leaders to hold Israel accountable for its actions and to ensure that Palestinians are protected from further harm
