Kaitlyn Dever as Abby in The Last of Us season 2
Just-released set photos from The Last of Us season 3 reveal new character Lev as well as the return of Abby. Almost a year after the second-season finale aired on HBO, production on the post-apocalyptic series has now gotten underway again in British Columbia, Canada.
While season 3 will focus on Abby's journey, it will also introduce new characters like trans teen Lev, played by Kyriana Kratter. New set photos shared by @giannisstape reveal Kaitlyn Dever and Kratter filming scenes in BC. Dever, as Abby, is wearing a blue jacket with brown pants, and a backpack slung over her shoulder, while Kratter's Lev can be seen following behind her, carrying a back quiver holding several arrows. In one photo, Abby stops and looks at a black beanie, and in another, she climbs down a fixed ladder. These set photos reveal that producers plan to stay accurate to the video game when it comes to Lev's appearance. The character has a shaved head, and Kratter does as well. In The Last of Us video games, Lev and his sister, Yara, are Seraphites who cross paths with Abby, with Lev, in particular, becoming a major figure in the Washington Liberation Front soldier's storyline. Bridgerton's Michelle Mao will play Yara. Kratter's recent casting announcement didn't come without some criticism, though. Lev is a trans boy who was voiced by trans actor Ian Alexander in the video games, but Kratter is a cisgender girl. Before landing the role of Lev on The Last of Us, Kratter was best known for playing KB on the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew; she also appeared on Disney Channel's Bunk'd and the CBS sitcom United States of Al. The Last of Us season 3 is expected to shift its focus to Abby after the first two seasons centered on Ellie and Joel Miller. Abby was introduced in season 2 as the main antagonist, who sought revenge after Joel killed her father in order to save Ellie. The second episode showed Abby and Joel's paths finally crossing, and the former shot and beat up the latter. Ellie, who had grown close to Joel over the course of the series, watched in horror as her friend was killed. After that horrifying moment, The Last of Us season 2 ended with two major cliffhangers, including Abby threatening to shoot Ellie, a scene that ended with a mysterious gunshot but didn't reveal if anyone was killed or injured. Following that scene, the episode went back in time to tease Abby's journey with the text"Seattle: Day One" appearing onscreen. Dever and Kratter's co-stars on The Last of Us include Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, Isabela Merced, Jeffrey Wright, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Clea DuVall, Patrick Wilson and Jason Ritter. FIlming for The Last of Us season 3 just began in early March, so a premiere date hasn't been announced yet, but HBO's Casey Bloys has said that fans should expect the third installment to air sometime in 2027. 346 8.2/10 8/10 The Last of Us 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-MA Drama Action Horror Release Date January 15, 2023 Network HBO Showrunner Craig Mazin Directors Craig Mazin, Peter Hoar, Jeremy Webb, Ali Abbasi, Mark Mylod, Stephen Williams, Jasmila Žbanić, Liza Johnson, Nina Lopez-Corrado Writers Neil Druckmann, Craig Mazin, Halley Wegryn Gross 3 Images Close Cast See All The Last Of Us is a television adaptation of the acclaimed video game series, set in a post-apocalyptic world where a smuggler named Joel is tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie across the ravaged United States.
