A full Sunday of artists and performers rang in the 30th anniversary of The Kitchen, Dallas' favorite studio.
Artists such as Erykah Badu, Wiz Khalifa, and André 3000 were former clients of The Kitchen, so it's no wonder that the Dallas studio's name carries such revered weightThe special shindig was located at the Far Out restaurant and bar, a West Texas-inspired location nestled minutes away from Fair Park.
. With its sloping metallic exterior, scattered families of huddled cacti and ample space for a crowd to cling to the adjacent stage across the property’s green space, Far Out felt like both a humble and high-end host for the sweet celebration. Inside the building, visual artists with ties to The Kitchen also displayed their work for purchase. One artist, Lawrence Cosby, had a number of his minimalist abstract geometric paintings displayed. Several of these were used in collaboration with The Kitchen’s owner as visuals for his music. They will be viewable on his YouTube channel, which you can subscribe to The musical festivities began at 4 p.m., ushering in a stacked lineup of artists who have close ties with The Kitchen, many of whom are a part of the studio’s core crew of audio engineers. DJ Big J. All Day introduced the first act, Qiyah Abdul, an artist inspired by southern hip-hop roots. Several more artists played, including audio engineers of The Kitchen: Chloe Jobin, Alex Beane and Liah. Painter’s band, Daliwood TX, also played following an exceptional set by songwriter Jobin and her band. With several more performances by Jaems IV, Sweet Bennie Ray, Almighty Lord Wrecka and Nana Bangz, the night wrapped up around 10 p.m.If you value independent journalism, please consider making a contribution to support our continued coverage of Dallas' music, events and entertainment scenes.Concert Reviews.
