This lioness head -- at the Cleveland Museum of Art -- once belonged to a grand statue of Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war. Beer plays a role stories about this ancient figure.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Beer saved the ancient world, according to Egyptian mythology. It seems people were behaving badly and disrespecting the laws of Ra. So, legend has it, the ancient god figure sent his daughter Sekhmet, the lion-headed goddess of war, to destroy them.
When the people heard this, they put pomegranate juice in thousands of jugs of beer. Then they dumped the red beer into the Nile. The blood-thirsty Sekhmet thought it was blood and drank the river of beer. She became so intoxicated that she decided not to destroy the people.Cleveland Botanical Garden’s ‘Frost: An Ice-Capped Garden Experience’ is bigger in 2024If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
