is the remarkable true story of a Syrian refugee turned double Olympian, a member of the first ever refugee team in the games.
If you want to watch the sisters' story without knowing anything about their real journey, be warned thatstarts in Syria at a sun-soaked swimming pool. Yusra and Sara are splashing around with their swimming coach father, Ezzat Mardini . While neither could swim, they committed to months of training, nailing Olympian-level butterfly strokes. The movie still used doubles, including the real Yusra subbing in for Nathalie in some pool scenes.While the real-life sisters were swimming for their country, a civil war raged on and bombs demolished parts of Damascus, where the family grew up.
The cast of refugees in the film don't perfectly mirror the group Yusra, Sara and Nabih actually travelled with, but in a moving detail, some of"[Mo, the smuggler] did that same crossing, but in a wooden boat.
