Forrest played his 500th game for the club on Sunday and some of his teammates wanted a speech
James Forrest didn’t know if he’d ever play for Celtic again. That’s why reaching a phenomenal 500 meant so much. But modest Forrest has revealed he ducked a speech after being saluted by boss Brendan Rodgers .
Forrest has started this term just as he ended the last and received a rapturous ovation as an appreciative support roared him onto the park during the 3-0 thumping of Rangers. He got the same appreciation when he hit the dressing room. But just as he eludes full-backs he dodged the limelight. “But I had a spell late January and February when I wasn’t in squads and I didn’t know if I was ever going to play for Celtic again. When stuff like that happens, it makes it even better when you do get achievements.
“Over the last few years you see it less and less. You see a lot of players moving on from clubs after two, three, four years. But being at a club the size of this for so long is a great achievement and I just need to keep working hard to try to add to that now as well.”
