Katniss, Gale, and Peeta made up the love triangle in The Hunger Games, but the Mockingjay's painful journey revealed that Peeta was the right choice.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Katniss was stuck between her feelings for Gale and Peeta in The Hunger Games, but the books proved who she was always meant to end up with. Like many literary love triangles, Katniss, Peeta, and Gale's situation sparked a fevered debate. Neither boy was entirely wrong for Katniss, and they both could be called morally good characters.
Katniss couldn't understand why Peeta would take a beating from his mother just to give Katniss—a girl he didn't know—something to eat. She was so used to people being too focused on their own survival to come together in kindness, and that was precisely the goal of Panem's government and the Hunger Games. Somehow, Peeta escaped this mentality and remained determined throughout his Hunger Games to prove that the Capitol couldn't turn him into a monster.
When Katniss finally decided that she wanted to fight the Capitol in Catching Fire, it looked as if she and Gale might actually end up together. However, as time passed, Katniss realized that Gale's rage went far further than hers. While he saw every single Capitol citizen—and even those from other Districts—as an enemy deserving of death, she recognized that many were just victims of Panem's brainwashing.
Gale Couldn’t Fully Understand Katniss’ Hunger Games Trauma Katniss and Gale had years of shared experience hunting in the woods and providing for their families, and this made up a significant portion of their bond. However, once Katniss was reaped for the Hunger Games, the things they had in common began to dwindle. Gale could empathize, but he would never fully understand what it had been like for Katniss in the arena. Not only this but as a victor, Katniss' life was no longer her own.
