Spring has sprung for San Antonio's culinary scene.
A wide variety of new bars and restaurants have made their debuts in the Alamo City so far this year, from newcomers to the scene to new locations of local mainstays.Hook Land & Sea opened at new mixed-use development The Creamery in January. The seafood restaurant features fusion cuisine, with menu items including Asian-inspired chicken banh mi and sriracha shrimp roll sandwiches along with Mexican salmon tostadas and quesabirria tacos.
Freight Fried Chicken draws inspiration from Black women known as Waiter Carriers who sold food to rail passengers traveling through Gordonsville, Virginia, in the years following the Civil War. The new joint serves chicken fried in a dry batter similar to the one used by the Waiter Carriers.Brunch spot Full Belly Cafe + Bar opened a second location in the space formerly occupied by Glass and Plate.
