Not all gifts flowing to Queensland MPs are so glamorous, but one company soars above the rest in dishing out what even their six-figure salaries can’t buy.
And among the members of what is described by outgoing boss Alan Joyce as “probably the most exclusive club in the country”? The entirety of Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s Labor government cabinet.
This is despite Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe and Resources Minister Scott Stewart not listing the gift on their declarations, meant to include anything worth more than $1088. In a statement, Stewart told me he was acting on the advice of Parliament’s Clerk that such memberships were not required to be declared. A spokesman for Hinchliffe said the same.for health reasons, also has a membership. As does a lonely David Crisafulli, flying the state LNP flag as leader.
The invitees – and a plus one – get two-year use of the hidden spaces in six domestic airports across the country, including Brisbane, renewed at Qantas’ discretion.
