The wonders of historic park with miniature railway, walled garden, maze and newly-transformed cafe
Worden Park in Leyland brings the countryside to the town centre. The historic park is set in 60 hectares of woodland, green space and colourful meadows and despite its urban location, it is remarkably peaceful and idyllic.
While the former Worden Hall building has been transformed by an extensive multi-million pound restoration project, with the Folly Cafe relocating inside the gorgeous Grade II-listed building with open beams, stone floors and high ceilings. The cafe has its own outdoor courtyard terrace and is among the cluster of pretty outbuildings and barns, which are used as a craft centre, workshops and galleries.
A big hit with the little visitors is the huge adventure playground, with a whopping amount of apparatus to choose from, including complex climbing frames, sand pits with diggers, slides and swings. There's also more fun to be had at the mini golf course, which wasn't open during our visit.
