It may just be mid-season but Seminoles, Tigers gave meeting a playoff taste
Sophomore Deer Park Tigers player Luke Sweezy discovers how comfortable a football can be as he watches a halftime show on the Abshier Stadium turf Saturday.Well, it appears the Deer Park High School varsity football team has some work to do.
"We struggled early with multiple turnovers in the kicking game, but the kids responded well and it was a great game by everybody. I couldn't be prouder," a relieved Tigers coach Adam Cox said. Then the Seminoles opened the second half with a mistake-free 10-play possession, chewing up 52 yards. All 10 plays came on the ground, but twice the boys were facing fourth down and kept moving the chains with clutch runs, one by Landingham, who tallied 33 of the yards, and the other by Aaron Coronado.
The Seminoles defended Ajay Beard, the Tigers' exciting playmaker in the backfield, very well. But Beard still went home with 82 all-purpose yards on 20 running or receiving assignments. He rushed for 66 and caught a 16-yard pass. "It was just a 27-toss. The offensive line gave him a hole and Leo made the right cut. Perfect," Cox said.Outside of the one-hour lightning delay on a sun-splashed day, nothing looked out of place in the Seniors game that saw the Seminoles take a 42-0 STYFA contest from the Tigers.
