The evening was hosted by the renowned musician Sammy Hagar, who shared anecdotes about his experiences with the band, including a humorous tale of his drugless journey to Thailand with guitarist Bob Weir. Weir, now 77, accepted the award alongside fellow bandmate Mickey Hart and three of their bandmates' offspring: Grahame Lesh, Trixie Garcia, and Justin Kreutzmann. Lesh's father, Phil, passed away in October at the age of 84, while Garcia's father, Jerry, died in 1995 at 53. Kreutzmann's father, Bill, sent a heartfelt message through a video, expressing his gratitude for the honor. Hart, visibly moved, acknowledged Bill's presence, stating, “I can feel his spirit in the house. He’s in the music, he’s in the rhythm, the heartbeat of everything we built together all these years.”The celebratory atmosphere continued with performances by a star-studded lineup of musicians, including Norah Jones, Bruce Hornsby, My Morning Jacket, John Mayer, The War and Treaty, and Sierra Ferrell. One of the highlights was a collaborative jam session between John Mayer and Jeff Chimenti on “Terrapin Station,” showcasing the musical synergy and improvisational prowess that defines The Grateful Dead's legacy. The event concluded with a powerful performance of “Sugar Magnolia” and “Touch of Grey” by Dead & Company, led by Weir and Hart, leaving the audience with a lasting sense of celebration and appreciation for the band's enduring impact on music and culture
