The Good Mother arrives on September 1.
Summary The Good Mother, which comes to theaters on September 1, deals with some heavy subject matter and themes of loss and grief. After the murder of her estranged son, Marissa forms an unlikely alliance with his pregnant girlfriend Paige to track down those who are responsible. Together, they confront a world of drugs and corruption in the underbelly of a small city. This is a true noir film that will keep viewers guessing as twist after twist is revealed.
It was the most difficult to nail down, because you want the audience to be engaged. Since we're not doing a super large scale conspiracy or something where all of a sudden, it's like, "Oh, they're putting things in the water", it needs unique things to fuel that, but you also want to stay within your world. I'm still hoping that it works. Miles Joris-Peyrafitte: Oh, a bunch. When we were coming up with the idea, which was in 2015, we were on the ser of our first film.
I think that can be really difficult thing for people to see, especially with mother characters. Because we have an expectation of how we want our mothers to grieve. We're like, "Bro, my mom is going to be way sadder." But that's what it's about. She's finding her grief throughout the film. She's finding the ability to express it.
So we had a lot of those kids working on the film and a bunch of the youth group had worked on our first film, As You Are, including this kid who was fifteen, Taofeek Abijako, who was painting on shoes that we were giving him from wardrobe and then started a brand called Head Of State that became this massive brand that like, Anna Wintour is obsessed with. He's dressing people for the Met Gala. So he came and did our wardrobe.
Screen Rant: Even just the little scenes, like when they are shopping. Speaking of that, I love how the text messages popped up on the screen instead of the camera zooming into a cell phone. Was that always the plan?
