It's a magnet for the rich and famous - and home to several Michelin-starred restaurants - but a holiday here doesn't have to break the bank
With the warm waters of the Mediterranean lapping at its shores and luxury resorts dotted along its coast, the French Riviera is known for being one of Europe’s most glamorous holiday destinations. The likes of Cannes and St Tropez have long been magnets for the rich and famous, while over the border in Monaco you’ll find a millionaire’s playground. Over the years the likes of Naomi Campbell, Leonardo DiCaprio, Beyoncé and Elton John have all holidayed in the region.
Nice has everything you could want from a holiday abroad: stunning beaches, delicious food and glorious weather. It doesn’t have to break the bank, either, as there are lots of ways you can stick to a budget. With Paris hosting the Olympics this summer there’s no better time to make a trip to Nice. In fact the city even hosted the end of the Tour de France this month in light of the capital being occupied with its other sporting responsibilities.
Of course being in France, gastronomy is huge for Nice, and while there are several Michelin-starred restaurants in Nice you can find cheaper alternatives. Old fashioned bistros and wine bars away from the main tourist areas are excellent spots for a bite to eat without extortionate prices.
