Directed by The Emperor’s New Groove director Mark Dindal, Garfield is expected to release on May 24, 2024.
Now, Sony Pictures has released the trailer for The Garfield Movie. The trailer reveals a first look at the plot of Garfield, which will focus on the titular cat’s relationship with his owner, Jon Arbuckle. Garfield’s trailer plays on some of the cat’s key traits, including his love of foods like lasagna and the hold he has over Jon.
The Garfield Movie Has Already Become Notorious Though the film is still months out from release, The Garfield Movie has already become infamous in the industry. This is mainly due to its lead actor Pratt, who has become the black sheep of Hollywood A-listers due to off-screen controversy surrounding his personal and political views.
The Garfield controversy has been further compounded by Pratt’s role in this year’s animated film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Pratt voiced lead character Mario in the film, and despite hyping up his commitment to the role, his rendering of the classic Nintendo character sounded nearly exactly like the actor’s typical speaking voice. The Super Mario Bros. Movie ended up being a smashing box office success, but nonetheless has not done Pratt’s reputation as a voice actor any favors.
