Fortnite has a pretty sharp divide between its most famous content creators and its best esports pros, with one exception: Tfue.
, you think of Ninja, Dr.Lupo, Courage, Myth, NickMercs, TimtheTatman. And yet none of these guys are playing today. Most tried to qualify for theWorld Cup, either in solos or duos, but all of them didn’t make the cut, and instead are showing up in the Celebrity Pro-Am, something Epic threw to make sure these guys got featured in some capacity, or they’re serving as casters .
content creator camp, yet also one that is showing up here in the list of the best players in the world who have qualified for solos. Tfue has essentially become the new Ninja over the past year in terms of his viewership draw on Twitch, and he’s doing it at only 21 years old. While the divide between megastar content creators and the top finalist pros is pretty stark elsewhere, Tfue is the one name that tops both lists .
Tfue will be up against a slew of younger players who have been scooped up by big esports clans from 100Thieves to NRG to Cloud9 to Envy.seems a little too chaotic to say that yes, one player out of a hundred is a definitive favorite, but almost certainly Tfue will end up with the biggest cheering section of anyone here.
As for me, I don’t have a favorite. I like Tfue and it would be cool to see a “name” win, and yet I am perfectly okay with some 15 year old kid I’ve never heard of raking in millions of dollars on a huge stage like this, as that would be its own kind of excellent Cinderella story. And whoever wins this, they’ll make their own leap from obscurity to celebrity in an instant.
A year from now, I have no idea who we’ll be talking about in the finals, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of these names return if they stick with it, Tfue included. The solo finals kick off at 1 ET today.
