The cult classic fantasy wuxia film, The Forbidden Kingdom, starring Jackie Chan and Jet Li, is finally getting a 4K and Blu-ray release.
The Forbidden Kingdom will be released on 4K and Blu-ray on February 25, 2025, as a special SteelBook combo pack. The SteelBook features both Jackie Chan and Jet Li on the front, with unique art inside the packaging. The 4K release will retail for $34.99 and is expected to be available at major movie retailers. Lionsgate hasn't confirmed if there will be an exclusive release launch as of now.
\The Forbidden Kingdom, originally released in 2008, is a fantasy wuxia film loosely inspired by the 16th-century novel Journey to the West. The film follows an American teenager, played by Michael Angarano, who gets transported to ancient China. There, he teams up with Lu Yan (Jackie Chan) and Sun Wukong (Jet Li) on a quest to return the staff of the Monkey King to its rightful owner. The movie, often considered one of the first successful collaborations between an American director and the wuxia genre, is also notable for being the first film to star both Jackie Chan and Jet Li. The Forbidden Kingdom received a moderate box office success, grossing $128 million worldwide. \The film also stars Liu Yifei, Li Bingbing, Morgan Benoit, Collin Chou, and Wang Deshun.
